Joel solves problems for growing, innovative companies across industries. He provides effective and efficient legal counsel on formation, financing, M&A, and day-to-day business legal issues.
Prior to Rubicon, he worked with a national company headquartered near Detroit which designed and produced trade show exhibits displayed by technology and automotive companies. With experience working inside a business, he’s seen how a business operates and knows what it is like to receive a bill from a lawyer.
Joel is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he teaches Venture Law: Forming, Financing, and Selling a Startup. He also guides law students as a Supervising Attorney at the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic at the University of Colorado Law School. Previously, he served on the Executive Councils of the Colorado Bar Association Business Law Section and Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.
Joel received his JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and his BA from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) where he studied Political Science and Philosophy.
He is admitted to practice in Colorado and Wisconsin.
Joel enjoys living in Denver with his wife and two young sons. Most of his time out of the office is happily spent parenting and working with his wife around their Wash Park house. When he can sneak it in, he enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, reading, hiking, and running. He can’t wait to get his sons on the slopes and behind the boat.
Day-to-day, Joel likes working with Apple hardware products and Google software products, and keeps current on business, law, and sports through Podcasts, Feedly, Pocket, and Robinhood.
